BIOGRAPHY
Born in the Czech Republic and raised in a sporty family, Klára Kuželová is a full round alpinist, ski mountaineer and alpine guide. As a child she practiced different sports, from horse-riding to alpine skiing. Switching to skins allowed then Klara to dive into the power of discovering “off the beaten track” locations while ski touring in Georgia, Russia and Turkey.
The unmatched sense of freedom experienced made her attempt extreme challenges, such as the first descent ever of the southeast couloir of Kackar Dagi mountain, Turkey (900m, 48degrees).
Nowadays, feeling the responsibility of the carbon footprint left and becoming a mother, she prefers discovering ski terrains within the alps, mainly in the Italian Val d’Ossola region where she lives now.
Off the snow, Klara can be found with her hands on the rock. Climbing became part of her outdoor world only in a second moment, pushed by the lifetime experience of becoming a mother. Despite the short time of such a journey, Klara managed to raise herself up to 7c, seasoning her list of repetitions with the legendary trad crack “Mustang”, until progressing up to her first 8a route, “Eli Angel” Balma - both in her hometown crags.
Being the second Czech to be part of the IFMGA mountain guides education, Klara is dedicated to push women empowerment, through organizing “Girls Only” teams in the ski touring and mountain ascents she leads.
A BRIEF CHAT WITH KLÁRA KUŽELOVÁ
What are your next sporting goals?
Pushing my limits on rock, both through sport climbing as well as in the mountains. I am interested in committing to alpine climbs that require high rock-climbing skills but also mountaineering skill in mixed terrain.
How and at what age did you become passionate about the mountains?
I was always passionate about mountains, as my parents brought me skiing in the Alps when I was 3 years old. Climbing alpine peaks, I have discovered much later once I have moved in the Alps.
What’s your favourite Karpos product?
I am actually in love with the Philipp Flamm Jacket, my pick for going outdoors with style.
