CROSSING SWITZERLAND

390 kilometers and 24,000 meters of elevation gain across 2 countries, 7 cantons, and 33 municipalities. These are the numbers of Crossing Switzerland, a new ultra-trail event. In 2022, the first edition of the race saw 200 participants from 20 countries. The unprecedented route in part follows the famous Via Alpina, from the capital of Liechtenstein, Vaduz, toward Montreux in the canton of Vaud.
Crossing Switzerland is an adventure, in the purest sense of the term, which in time could become a classic event.

THE ROUTE

After leaving the Principality of Liechtenstein, crossing the Rhine, and also passing through the hometown of the most famous heroine in Swiss literature, Heidi, the race gets serious. Shortly after Sargans begins a series of 14 Alpine passes, one after the other, most of them above 2,000 meters in elevation. A real journey that includes many legendary Swiss tourism destinations, such as the Sardona area in the Glarus Alps (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Engelberg, home of Olympic champions Michelle Gisin and Marco Odermatt. The runners then pass in front of the iconic north faces of Mönch, Eiger, and Jungfrau, and through the Bernese Oberland, with its magnificent heritage, and finally enter into the canton of Vaud, with its famous cheese, before continuing toward the Rochers de Naye and finishing with a long descent down to the shores of Lake Geneva.
A one-of-a-kind route, through landscapes gently shaped by man and harsh high-altitude environments. A mixture of sensations that only Switzerland, with its mountain territory, can offer. Crossing Switzerland is not just a race but an experience that you immerse yourself in fully and come out renewed.
