KARPOS AND THE TRANSCAVALLO: A STRENGTHENED PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TWO TOP NAMES IN THE WORLD OK SKI MOUNTAINEERING
The collaboration initiated in 2015 between Karpos and the Transcavallo, a team ski mountaineering competition now in its 36th edition, will continue. The Transcavallo, which takes place in the mountains of the Alpago region in the province of Belluno, represents the essence of modern ski mountaineering, where safety, experience and performance are key elements in an event that every year brings approximately 100 teams to do battle along the steep couloirs and exposed ridges of the Alpago mountains. Three elements that Karpos embraces and incorporates into the development and manufacture of its products. In addition to being a partner of this historic Italian ski mountaineering competition, Karpos is the official supplier of race suits for the ski club that organizes the event. The Alpago region and the Piancavallo ski area have become a preferred location for ski mountaineering races. Alpago has already hosted the world championships in 2017; the European championships in 2009; and three World Cups, in 2004, 2011 and 2016. The team ski mountaineering competition will take place in three stages. The tried-and-tested formula will see the athletes reach Piancavallo at the end of the first stage, stay in a hotel, and then head out again the next morning toward the finish at Col Indes. The third stage will start and finish at Col Indes. The second edition of the Transcavallo Classic will be held in conjunction with the race. In this noncompetitive event, a sort of rally, the participants (a maximum of 50), accompanied by mountain guides, will precede the competitors and receive a special welcome along the route and at the rifugi involved. They will thus be able to relive the moments that laid the foundation for the Transcavallo, when, many years ago, the pioneers of ski mountaineering set out from Alpago to Piancavallo.
