Valle Stura Skyrace

The event

As fascinating as they are unexplored, as rugged as they are rewarding. The climbs of the Upper Stura Valley of Demonte, on the border between Italy and France, are a true paradise of high-mountain rocks and lakes, stretching between history and wild environments. Since 2024, the organizers of the Valle Stura Skyrace have been leading trail running enthusiasts to discover a too-often-forgotten territory through three routes and as many levels of challenge. An authentic journey where the elevation profile offers brief pauses to take your breath away before the sea of crystalline rocks dominating the view, right before plunging into the long scree descents that conclude each section of rolling terrain.

The main race (Sky, 24 km and 2,150 m D+), which in 2026 awards the Italian Skyrace Champion title, is the most technical and fast-paced. The course takes athletes up the peaks of Mount Scaletta (2,840 m) and Mount Oserot (2,860 m), through exposed passages tackled with the aid of fixed chains, and past several fortifications of the Alpine Wall (Vallo Alpino).
It is a route built for true climbers—averaging over 100 finishers—who dare to push themselves under the late July sky, giving it their all in a pursuit that allows no lapse in pace.

The trail race (20 km and 1,400 m D+) overlaps with the flagship event for long segments. The checkpoints located at the Upper Roburent Lake, the Peroni Pass, and the Oserot Pass represent the postcards of a journey where the clock doesn't matter, yet remains just as appealing.

The vertical race (4 km and 1,000 m D+), on the other hand, is aimed at specialists and newcomers to the discipline alike. The new addition for 2026 features a high-grade climb tracing a diagonal line from the meadows overlooking Bersezio up to the finish line on the slopes of Falso Oserot (2,600 m). A vertical sprint that allows no truce.

From Dolomite limestone to that of the Cottian Alps. The partnership between Karpos and the Valle Stura Skyrace team has united them since the inception of the event, bound by a shared vision of trail running and the exploration of wild crags.
